Trion Project in Mexico | Deepwater Oil Development & Engineering Excellence
Pioneering Mexico’s Deepwater Frontier with Expert Supervision and Quality Assurance
The Trion Project represents a landmark deepwater oil development in Mexico’s Gulf of Mexico sector, showcasing one of the earliest major international collaborations offshore Mexico. NWE plays a key role by delivering comprehensive engineering design reviews, on-site supervision, rigorous quality surveillance, and independent third-party inspections throughout fabrication, offshore construction, and commissioning.
NWE’s Role in the Trion Project
Ensuring Excellence from Fabrication to Offshore Integration
NWE supports the project with:
Detailed engineering design reviews ensuring compliance and optimization
Expert site supervision during fabrication and offshore phases
Comprehensive quality surveillance covering materials and workmanship
Independent third-party inspections during critical stages, enhancing safety and reliability
Project Overview
Strategic Deepwater Development in the Perdido Fold Belt
Located about 30 km south of the U.S.–Mexico maritime border in water depths of 2,500 meters, the Trion field was discovered in 2012 and is a cornerstone of Mexico’s expanding deepwater oil portfolio.
The development includes installation of a Floating Production Unit (FPU) connected to a subsea production system, with associated infrastructure enabling oil, gas, and water processing. The FPU will feature storage capacity and export via shuttle tankers.
Technical Scope
From Subsea Infrastructure to Offshore Commissioning
This phase encompasses:
Drilling and completion of development wells
Installation of subsea production equipment and flowlines
Integration and commissioning of topside modules on the FPU
Offshore construction supervision ensuring adherence to schedule and quality
Why the Trion Project Matters
Driving Mexico’s Energy Future with Innovation and Collaboration
As one of the first large-scale deepwater projects in Mexican waters with international collaboration, Trion is a strategic asset enhancing Mexico’s energy security and boosting production capacity in a technically challenging environment.
Advancing Mexico’s Offshore Energy Landscape
Delivering Quality, Safety, and On-Time Project Support
Through meticulous inspection and supervision, NWE ensures the Trion Project meets stringent international standards and client expectations—reducing risks and supporting a successful project delivery.
