Trion SURF Project in Mexico | Subsea Umbilical, Risers & Flowlines Design

The Trion Project is a deepwater oil development located in the Perdido Fold Belt in the Gulf of Mexico, offshore Mexico. It marks one of the first major deepwater projects involving international collaboration in the Mexican sector. The development includes the installation of a Floating Production Unit (FPU), subsea infrastructure, and tie-backs to host facilities. NWE is contributing to the project by providing engineering design reviews, site supervision, quality surveillance, and third-party inspections during fabrication, offshore construction, and commissioning stages.

The Trion oil field lies approximately 30 km south of the maritime border with the United States, in water depths of 2,500 meters. Discovered in 2012, Trion represents a strategic development for Mexico’s deepwater sector. The field is being developed through a Floating Production Unit (FPU) connected to a subsea production system and associated infrastructure.

The FPU will be capable of processing oil, gas, and water, with storage and export via shuttle tankers. This phase of the project includes drilling of development wells, subsea equipment installation, flowline connections, and offshore integration and commissioning of topside modules.
